The annual Brick Awards is one of the most widely respected design awards in the UK. Organised by Building magazine and the Brick Development Association (BDA), the Awards recognise excellence in design and construction using brick. 14 trophies and more than 50 certificates are issued to the successful projects acknowledging the architect/designer, brick manufacturer and specialist brickwork contractor. The unprecedented rise in the costs of gas and electricity used to make bricks and in the cost of diesel fuel for transport make brick price increases of between 15% and 20% inevitable at the year end. These two new products further extend the attractive range of traditional waterstruck bricks from Birtley. The Cumberland Blend combines both red and brown multi-coloured bricks. The Millhouse Blend is a subtle mix of buff multi and brown bricks giving the product a traditional northern cottage feel.
